Everyone loves Dragon

A Friend for Dragon
Book one in The Dragon Tales by Dav Pilkey
Scholastic, Inc 1 September 1991

Poor Dragon is the victim of a practical joke, involving his new friend Apple, a snake, a squirrel, hippo, crocodile and a dribbling walrus. A Friend for Dragon touches on death and new life. But once Dragon realises Apple, who is eaten by a trickster, wasn’t actually a living friend, he can bury it and create new life with its seeds. Due to his good nature, Dragon comes out laughing and will soon have your little readers giggling uncontrollably. The Dragon Tales are tender and heart-warming and introduce children to the everyday and sometimes complex aspects of life. Each book features full-colour illustrations from Dav Pilkey who captures this young audience with the joy exuded by Dragon, hopefully enticing them to become fans of his multiple series for older-readers. Parents should note that this first in the series could be triggering for sensitive children. It would be fine to skip this book and start with Dragon Gets By.

Parents say: "These books are funny and we worked up to our son reading these to us. There are some sad moments, but mostly Dragon is a funny, silly creature that makes us laugh." - Kel, mum of YK child
